Been trying to do it via http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/microsoft-office-2003.html. This is a new machine and it has a free trial of office 2007 already. I've been trying to download it but it's not working, saying something like "not found on your system". Suggestions?
Umm... MS Office 2003 still costs money. Getting it for free is illegal.
OpenOffice is free and can do pretty much everything Word can do. You might want to check that out.
Office 2003 is no longer available for trmicrosoft office free downloadial or purchase, but you can purchase Office 2007 here:

You should rather try SSuite Office for a free office suite. They have a whole range of office suites that are free for download.
Their software also don't need to run on Java or .NET, lmicrosoft office free downloadike so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

The previous answer is correct - Ms Office isn't free, but Open Office is.
Brothersoft.com is a shady site. It's mostly advertised by spammers and they appear to host warez. I'd strongly suggest that you run multiple virus scans. Personally, I wouldn't go near that site if you paid me.
